In Spain, intercity bus trips will become free

In Spain, there is a scheme according to which local and medium-distance journeys are free for passengers who make them regularly. From now on, this service is also extended to long-distance bus journeys. From January 1, passengers with travel tickets will be able to travel for free.

The aim is to encourage people to leave their cars at home and use public transport, and to help offset the cost of living crisis.

Routes are already subsidized by 50% since September

A total of 79 routes will become free. Among the most popular bus routes that will be free in 2023 are Madrid-Segovia, Madrid-Guadalajara, Teruel-Barcelona and Santander-Bilbao-Barcelona.
