The United States of America is launching the Welcome Corps program, which will allow Americans to financially sponsor Ukrainians fleeing the war with Russia.

The Welcome Corps program provides for the creation of sponsoring groups of at least five people who will support immigrants from Ukraine.

Such a group must collect at least $2,275 for each person, pass a background check and create a plan to support the Ukrainians they want to help.

During the immigrants' first 90 days in the U.S., sponsors will provide or help them obtain:

dwelling;

food;

medical services;

education;

state benefits.

  Information sessions for potential sponsors begin on January 26.

The US State Department hopes to attract at least 10,000 private sponsors to resettle at least 5,000 refugees during the first year of the program.
