Zeitenwende is the German word of the year

The German Language Society chose Zeitenwende as the German word of the year — Scholz used it in the context of the Russian Federation's war against Ukraine. It translates as "turning point".

"This word, which is not new and means the beginning of the Christian era, but in a more general sense also any transition to a new era, was actively used by Chancellor Scholz," the society explained.
